At Serving People In Need (SPIN), we’re committed to helping the homeless and working poor through quality programs and services centered on building self-sufficiency. We focus on offering a hand up, not a hand out, to help families get back on their feet. Join us as we strive to help end homelessness in Orange County.
Our Programs and services
At any given time, a family may find itself in a crisis situation and not know where to turn for help. SPIN’s programs can help, including our GAPP Housing Program and Costa Mesa Rental Assistance.

Help Fight Homelessness in
Orange County
In 2020, SPIN’s GAPP program served 750 households, totaling 2,710 individuals (1,080 adults and 1,630 children), more than double those served in 2019.
GAPP moved 145 individuals into permanent housing, provided rental assistance and prevention services for 270 individuals (105 adults and 165 children), and grocery assistance and counseling services for 630 households (920 adults and 1375 children).
92% of clients have achieved self-sufficiency at the program’s end and have maintained housing.
88% of the funds raised directly benefit our clients and programs. SPIN has the lowest overhead of any similar nonprofit serving families.
As an Access Point for Central Orange County, SPIN has provided homeless prevention, diversion, and support with the goal of preventing homelessness. Through this program, SPIN assisted over 1000 individuals.
SPIN continues its role as the Housing Partner at the Melinda Hoag Smith Resource Center, the only center of its kind attached to a hospital.
The County found that SPIN’s Rapid Rehousing Program had the best performance—clients maintained their housing, increased their income, and required no further assistance
